ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) – A new shopping center in Albemarle County is taking shape.
The area between 5th Street Extended and Avon Street is cleared, and workers have been paving and putting up signals for the new connector road, 5th Street Station Parkway.
Planners say the 5th Street Station Shopping Center has taken years to make a reality.
They believe the new road will create more ways for people to get around once it opens next fall.
“The road is also gonna offer pedestrian and bike lanes access. So that’s going to also connect, you know, these two sides and provide more options, transportation options for people,” said senior planner Sarah Baldwin.
In addition to Wegmans, the new shopping center will include a Dick’s Sporting Goods, Panera Bread and a Petsmart.
